2 die 4 tourney 5/1/10

 by: farmpunk

A long time ago (I kept meaning to write up game 1, but never was able to find the time), I went down to Games 2d4 for their tourney. It was 1750pts, mono-codex. Mono-codex was a tough one for me. I usually run WitchHunters w/inducted IG. I've got plenty painted up for 1750 of WH/IG. Not so much for mono-WH. I'd contemplated painting up my GK's and borrowing a LRC from Chambers. I'd thought about borrowing SandWyrm's IG, since he wasn't going to go.

I went with my first love of 40K. WitchHunters. lots and lots of nuns with guns. and light tanks. I had 10, I could have done 11, but as it was, I had to borrow one Immo, and use one crappy =I= Chimera.

without further ado, I brought Inquisitor Lord Trakuyev's Used car Emporium:
HQ:
Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor Lord (Bolt Pistol, CCW, Psychic Hood) 199pts
Sister Hospitaller (ignore wound that isn't insta-kill)
   2 IST's (2meltaguns)
Inquisitorial Chimera (hull Hflamer, Multilaser, E. Armor)

Elites:
Celestian Squad (2Meltagun, 3Bolters)  158pts
   Immolator (Twin Hflamer, E.Armor, smoke)
Celestian Squad (2Meltagun, 3Bolters)  158pts
   Immolator (Twin Hflamer, E.Armor, smoke)
Celestian Squad (2Meltagun, 3Bolters)  158pts
   Immolator (Twin Hflamer, E.Armor, smoke)

Troops:
Battle Sisters Squad  (Hflamer, Meltagun, 7Bolters) 235pts
Veteran Sister Superior (Bolt Pistol, Eviscerator, Book of St. Lucius)
   Rhino (E.Armor, Smoke)
Battle Sisters Squad  (Hflamer, Meltagun, 7Bolters) 210pts
Veteran Sister Superior (Bolter, Book of St. Lucius)
   Rhino (E.Armor, Smoke, Searchlight)
Battle Sisters Squad  (Hflamer, Meltagun, 7Bolters) 210pts
Veteran Sister Superior (Bolter, Book of St. Lucius)
   Rhino (E.Armor, Smoke, Searchlight)
Inquisitorial Storm Troopers (2Meltaguns, 3Hellguns)  70pts

Heavy Support:
Immolator (Twin Hflamer, E.Armor, Smoke)  73pts
Exorcist (E.Armor) 140pts
Exorcist (E.Armor) 140pts

Ironically, I'd forgotten I'd put an Eviscerator on the one SoB squad. It turns out it would have made a difference in game 3. So I would have won that game, and won the tourney. I'll watch my list better next time. I'd done several iterations of the list, and forgot if the VSS had a CCW or Evisc. oh well.

First Game:
Dodger3's Khorne Daemons (I'm not sure what's default or not on Daemons)
HQ:
Fateweaver 333pts
Bloodthirster (wings, unholy might) 275pts

Elites:
4 BloodCrushers (Icon, Instrument, Fury of Khorne) 200pts
4 BloodCrushers (Icon, Instrument, Fury of Khorne) 200pts

Troops:
8 Bloodletters 128pts
7 Bloodletters 112pts
4 Pink Horrors (Bolt of Tzneetch, Instrument of Chaos!) 105pts
   Changeling (glamour of Tzneetch)
5 Plaguebearers 75pts

Heavy Support:
SoulGrinder (vomit, tongue) 160pts
SoulGrinder (vomit, tongue) 160pts

Dodger got his wrong wave in first, which was mostly troops, and a soulgrinder. I was glad. I hate playing Daemons. They're just not so much fun for me to play against. Normally I'd have had at least 1 psycannon in my list to kill the buggers. I honestly don't mind the DeepStrike. I dislike Fateweaver, but once you kill him, it's not as bad. Their troops (except for plaguebearers) fall down easy enough.
I've got a lot of pics of this battle, and I might write it up as a more complete Battle report. It was a fun game, even though FateWeaver must've been watching a new Dr. Who or something. (not that I can blame him) He didn't come in until fairly late.

Game 2:
Sniper Kid's Chaos! Daemons

I didn't get a copy of this list, but it was fairly similar to Dodger's list, except there were 2 pink horror units, rather than bloodletters, and more plaguebearers in the squad. There were also shreikers, and fiends of slannesh. He also didn't have a Prince.
for someone who doesn't like to play daemons, I pull them in twos it seems. This time, the correct wave DID come on, so FateWeaver became target #1. Once you take down the Lynchpin, the list's a lot easier.
again, I cursed not having a single Psycannon, or even psycannon bolts.
I did make a mistake at the end, I should have tank shocked the plaguebearers away from the leftmost objective, so I was claiming it uncontested. I already had two objectives claimed for a major victory, so I didn't sweat it.

Game 3:
ScottyDon't and his Salamanders Space Marines

HQ:
Vulkan (Kesare's mantle) 190pts

Elite:
Dreadnought (MultiMelta, Hflamer) 150pts
   Drop pod
Terminator assault squad (5 TH/SS) 450pts
Land Raider Redeemer (MultiMelta, flamestorm cannons, twin-linked assault cannons)

Troops:
Tactical Squad (Multi-Melta, Melta, 7Bolter) 245pts
   Sargeant (combi-melta, P-fist)
   Drop pod
Tactical Squad (Multi-Melta, flamer, 7Bolter) 225pts
   Sargeant (meltabombs, P-weapon)
   Drop pod
Tactical Squad (Multi-Melta, Melta, 7Bolter) 235pts
   Sargeant (meltabombs, P-weapon)
   rhino

Heavy:
Land Raider Crusader (Multi-melta, Hurricane bolters, Twin-link Assault cannon) 260pts

I was glad to not be playing against daemons, and playing a more typical opponent. Although there would be deepstrike again. with the annoyance of it coming in drop pods. At least I'd be able to react and pounce when things came in.
This game ended up being a dual battle. I had about half of my force near my objective, and half out in the open. ScottyDon't reacted sort of how I thought he might, with the 2 Land Raiders on the open side, with Vulkan and Termies in the Redeemer, and a Tac Squad combat squadded to sit inside a rhino, and the other Land Raider.
my right side of the table after my first moves

First turn I gunned the pair of Immos, and pair of rhinos forward, and pop smoke on the immos. The exorcists provide long range support by trying to hit the rhino bunkered Multimelta, sitting on his objective.

 the first pods fall
Drop Pods would rain on my objective. yay! (it's the dying praetorian in the middle of my tanks.) The vehicles on my objective shuffle a bit, and smoke. The Dread lands in the building to my right, and his first troops land wide.  The Dread wrecks the Heavy Support Immo (the front one), but thanks to smokes on my vehicles, not much else happens.
And on the Right side of the board...

Vulkan and his posse move up, but Vulkan doesn't get out. The left Immo gets exploded, and the Celestians disembark behind, so as not to be eaten by TH/SS Termies. They've still got a target. Not much else happens.

For my turn2:
 Turn 2 left side
I whip the Chimera around with it's 2 Melta, and paste the dread. The sisters in the rhino destroy the drop pod. IST's get out of their Immo, and move up, with help from the Celestian Immo, wipe the mobile element of the combat squad.
In return, ScottyDon't hits the IST's hard, leaving 1.

 3, I drop 3 TH/SS termies.
On the Right side, The now ride-less Celestians move around to get shots of on the redeemer, Immobilizing it. The two Sisters rhinos wheel around for a Firing V, with Sisters in the middle, I couldn't quite get everyone in both squads able to fire, but no big deal. I drop some TH/SS termies.
The Celestians on the far right, jet forward, and claim the LRC as a trophy.

ScottyDon't charges takes out the left Rhino with the TH/SS termies, I shoot back, taking down 1 termie. He then ends up charging the Sisters in the open, while I drive my SoB squad around in the other rhino. for a few turns. I'm not sure why I didn't press towards his objective. I was probably getting concerned about my own objective, on the left side.
I was getting tired, and not taking as many pics, as the game ramped up. I also forgot the Sisters Squad on my objective had an Eviscerator. I should have checked my List. I changed it a few times the night before...
I think this is turn3
Turn3 Left Side, the 3rd pod is in
On the Right side, I shot up the MM part of the tac squad, The Immo got it's Hflamers taken off, and the Sisters got out to kill a combat squad of Marines, only to whiff badly, and get locked in CC. Which is bad. they're my scoring unit, after the IST's got picked off.

 This is turn 4
I swung my stuff back towards my objective, I dunno, I should have pushed into his objective, I didn't want to tangle with Vulkan and his last Termie. too badly.
In the End, we tied, having accumulated the same number of turns claiming our objectives.

Overall, I came in 3rd (I think), which is in the money (I know I was in the money). I had a good time, and once again enjoyed battling it out with Scott.

  1. Wow, 2 Daemons in a row. Reminds me of our last tourney, I didn't face a single marine army for 3 games straight (a new personal best :P).

    Well done
