New 40k Tourney in Kokomo

by Uberdark

This chick could be here!!! Not really, but hey!

Well I have been talking with my buddies at Gamer DMZ and they have agreed to host a huge and i mean HUGE tourney in Kokomo.  I am organizing it, and there will be/should be a butt load of prize support.
What we have so far is a 1750 pt tourney.  Best army, best single miniature award, and a first, second and third place win accordingly.  WYSIWYG

Orks: 1500 pt tourney list.

by Uberdark

My response to FarmPunk telling me I had ice cream balls.

Needing advice on my army for the newest 1500 pt game.  Farmpunk asked me last night to put it up, at which point i stated: "In front of all the world to see?"

His response was: "Do you have steel balls, or ice cream balls?"

I threw my marshmallow, cotton candy ice cream on the ground and growled to the world, "BRING IT ON, WAAAAAGH!"  at least that is how I remember it. I think the blue mouth and marshmallow cotton candy bowl of ice cream really upped my bad assishness; lol.

Clash of the Titans: Farmpunk vs. Spaguatyrine

by Spaguatyrine

The greatly anticipated clash of Farmpunk and Spaguatyrine.  Ragnar and his pack are on a patrol when he gets attacked by a group of Witchhunters. Just like they attempted to take over the fang many years ago, Ragnar attempts to expel them from the immediate area.

NecroWhatica? Starting a gang

by: farmpunk

I was a bit surprised when I walked into the GP North and found Lord Ober eager for a Necromunda game. I pulled out a fresh gang I had drawn up previously, and We sat down to some of those basic questions everyone has when they start:

What can I play? What's the difference between groups? Do you HAVE to be human?

Reader Question: Hellhounds?

by SandWyrm

Charles Writes:

I was wondering something, as I have not had any real practice against the Guard Codex, and a friend of mine is looking to make his a little more beefy.
We both had a question based on what do you think of Hellhounds?  We are stuck hunting for a reason not to use them.  As they seem really really good.  If you could give me some insider advice, as it seems to me that you know your way around the Codex.  I would greatly appriciate it.

He has just been having some horrid luck, and needs to get back onto his feet, and get a good list for play.

A Day Shrouded in Darkness; Game 3

by TheGraveMind

Strung Muppets Nurgle chaos marine force fighting some Eldar?

So my Win in Game 1, and Draw in Game 2 Have led me to my last game of the Day shrouded in Darkness. My opponent from game 2, moves on to face the Tyranids, pitting him on the top table. The ultramarines that fell to the swarm, gather themselves up, only to be faced by the swift Plasma drakes. Wild Ultramarine Appeared!

Color Question: Space Marines

by SandWyrm

This email was quite long, so I've edited out the unimportant or redundant parts. I'll also insert my comments as we go.
Hey Sandwyrm,

your color theory articles really inspired me and in the end were responsible for me finally starting to paint again. As usual, its Marines. I thought about a color scheme and painted a test mini. The main color i chose was hawk turquoise. As metal colors i chose both a bronze/gold and steel (no nmm, although chars/sergeants are gonna be done with a sky-earth effect). Being in the "neutral" spectrum, bone colors will also be used on a few details. So far so good.

Reader Email: Thanks For The Color Theory Help!

by SandWyrm

Hey SandWyrm,

I wanted to say thanks for your articles about colour theory and for
your suggestions with my XV9 crisis suit.  I finally finished it and
here is the end result:

Battle Report: SandWyrm vs. CaulynDarr

by SandWyrm

Mrs. SandWyrm and I have been taking a ballroom dancing class on Wednesdays, so my gaming has been pushed into the weekend for a few weeks now. Which means that by Saturday I'm pretty stir-crazy and looking for something to smash.

So I headed over to G2D4, hoping to kick Sangy's Space Puppies around, but he didn't show. Awe. But CaulynDarr was there with his Ultramarines, so I threw down against his blue men with the Tallarn 13th.

What I want in tourneys [editorial]

by: farmpunk

When 40k Tournaments come up, there are certain things I prefer to see, as I decide if I will attend or not. Location, Ruleset (which includes comp, missions, pairings), and opportunity cost. SandWyrm and I have spelled out some of the things we like to see as we plan an event. In planning an event, you honestly get to choose how you feel to BEST do your event. When choosing to go to someone Else's event, you're not so lucky.

Tactics and then some

by: Uberdark

So its been a bit since I've written anything, but after playing a few games of late I have really started noticing a lot of ways different people play and how those ways help or hurt their game.  tonight i played a great up and coming painter and gamer who has one of the most beautiful Smurf Marine armies out there, and he's only twelve!!

A Day Shrouded in Darkness; Game 2

By TheGraveMind

Dawn of war deployment is always fun for Tyranids. A picture of my fellow Force of Disorder on the table next to mine for Game 2. I was paired up against an all Grey Knights list. The mission was dawn of war deployment, nightfight lasts until a 5+ is rolled at the beginning of each game turn. Selective kill points. Only three units were worth KP, primary was 7KP, secondary was 5KP, and tertiary was 3KP. You had to have your most expensive and your least expensive units as KP units, the last was your choice, and you get to select which of the three are primary, secondary, or tertiary. You didn't/should show your list to your opponent this game, that way they don't know your most/least expensive.

A Day Shrouded in Darkness; Game 1

By TheGraveMind

So this Saturday I drove Strung Muppet and myself up to Lafayette to take part in "A Day Shrouded in Darkness" hosted by the Game preserve and Ursa's Den. The missions were good, with just a few minor things needing to be tweaked. All of my games were incredibly close and a lot of fun. There was almost full turn out and each person there was extremely enjoyable. Luckily I brought my camera and took a good amount of pictures.

Thinking outside of T6; Troops take 2

By TheGraveMind

I actually know a place that sells this starwars poster, I might have to buy it. Back to the topic at hand, Tyranid troop options. I've talked about using warriors instead of Tervigons last time I talked about troops. I think it is time I covered other options.

Lictors: The Red-headed Step Child

by Anonymous Foodie

Just about every army comes equipped with a unit or three that just don't hold the same ground as the rest.  Sometimes they're just "meh", and sometimes they're downright laughable.

Sometimes, though, when we don't take the time to really look at what a unit can do, it gets thrown into this category without really belonging there.  With this in mind, let's take a look at one of the oft-debated units in the Tyranid army, the Lictor.

Thinking outside of T6; Elites

By TheGraveMind

I know it's been a while since my last tyranid post. The reason? I've completely stopped playing tyranids. I've been busy with my Blood Angels, and they are serving me well as an assault force. Though there are times I do wish for more combat power like my Nids once had. I have been thinking about this one for a while now, and thinking about how, if ever, I want to remake my tyranid army. So today we will be looking at viable options to take over Hiveguard spam. My main goal from my series of articles is to expand past the 3 hiveguards, 2 terv, 2 tyranofex style of list. It does well, but it has no surprises and lacks in Close combat. Here are my past two articles T6 HQ, and T6 Troops.

Got this from Caulyn Darr and wanted to post if anyone is interested. We are working on growing the hobby with new armies for experienced players, bringing in the new 4 or 5 players we have attracted, and helping our gaming store at Games2Die4.

The Start of a New Year!

by TheGraveMind

First off I want to wish everyone a great start to the new year, and hope everyone had a good time ending the past year. I've been preoccupied with my Christmas gifts, namely Dragon Age origin. But I managed to pull myself away and check out the Blogosphere and look what I stumbled upon. Over at Rites of Battle, they have pictures of second wave Blood Angels. A sprue of the new dread, which is looking great, and a different angle of a Storm raven. I'm eagerly waiting for these models, which last I heard were still rumored for early Feb, and I'm hoping they are not getting pushed back to the GK release. Well, I know what I'm saving my extra Christmas money for.
