NOVA: farmpunk's Final List

by: farmpunk

After wrangling and stewing for entirely too long (at least a week) I settled on something I think might be fun to play. It's probably more aggressive than I typically build, but the Purifiers can handle aggressive much better than the Sisters ever could.

I'm borrowing 3 items from Spaguatyrine for this (because we think they're good) 1 Psycannon, and the two StormRavens.

This army also saw me doing something rare and unusual....

I painted.

My wife and daughters weren't sure who this guy with two spray cans (Rust oxide primer, and Wimbledon White car paint), and a tub of homemade terracotta wash was.

  1. I wish you the very best, Farmpunk, and I know you guys up north know your game, but I'd be very interested to hear the thought process behind this one.

I'll admit, we haven't playtested Crowe that much, but so far Stormravens in Grey Knights are having problems.

That said, it makes me think you have a line on their use, so share!

(Man, I'm disappointed I don't get to go!)

  2. I'm a big fan of the Crowe-Purifier list. I also like that you fit Stormravens in. Good luck.

  3. When I looked into doing a Purifier list I just couldn't get past the fact that Crowe is a billy no mates. I've heard some people just reserve him or walk him up behind a rhino or dread... but ultimately he just seems like necessary dead weight!?

I'd be interested to hear what you have to say on how to actually make use of him!?

  4. @Brent

So what is the StormRaven transport capacity of a Grey Knight? Can you fit more Ravens in a Terminator than a PAGK? :P

Crowe is a pretty nasty in close combat if you can get him across the field without being shot to death. Not Mephiston-level nasty, but certainly able to beat up anything that's not a dedicated close combat unit.

He's got weaknesses, certainly. But he's not useless.

That might explain the funny walk and generally dour personalities of GKs ;)

  7. I can see that in a big army list this it would be easier to run him under the radar, as the enemy focuses on the other more immediate threats. Is that the crux of the plan!?

If so, I suppose the question would be how do you imagine you will get him to the enemy, and also how well do you think this would work in smaller armies (say 1500pts for example) where your overall model count is already lower, and so the number of threats you present fewer!?

  8. @ oink

at 1500pts, I'm more inclined to drop the ravens, and Libby, and pick up Coteaz and a few meltagunners with chimera. As well as switch the MM dread to another psyfleman.

I'll work up a post about it after NOVA.

Draigo can fit 3 Stormravens inside and carry another. ;)

  11. @Brent,

This is a very similar to the list I have been playing and testing. I can assure you that this type of list is hard hitting and tough to take down. We won't give everything away, but I have been saying that Grey Knights belong in close combat since I bought the codex. A lot of writers disagree but I have no doubts of their prowess and abilities even against numbers 2 or 3 times their size.

Crowe riding in an empty razorback moving towards the enemy is great!

  12. Crowe can even go into defensive stance and reroll all his saves in close combat. Makes him very difficult to take out. Toss him against a 30 man ork squad and watch them dance around for 3 or 4 turns. I think the Crowe-Tax is very much worth it in this list.

  13. I look forward to all the reports, guys. I'll have to live vicariously through blog coverage!

Thanks for the email, Farmpunk - you make a ton of sense. :)

  14. best use of purifiers was engaging 83 orks (30 boys, 27 boys, 14 Lootas, 12 lootas) in a single close combat, then casting Cleansing flame twice. once from each squad.

then hitting the remnant in CC.

I think he lost combat resolution by around 70.

  15. So you are Farmpunk eh?

God I hate Stormravens. Between the 3 Grey Knight players I faced they had 5 of them between them. They are my armies Achilles’ heel.

I will send you the pics of our game shortly.

  16. Thanks Blackmoor.

I went with two because I wanted to be able to deliver a lot of purifiers into my opponent's backfield, and charge things on turn 2 or 3 if needed. It was a fun list.

again, our game was a pleasure. even if I lost, I can say I made you sweat.
