Thank You!

by SandWyrm

You know, I just want to say thanks to our readers here at TB40K. Thank you for being intelligent and thoughtful. Your comments are always respectful and a joy to read. Well, except for all those your mama jokes recently. But everyone has a silly day. :)

Musings on a 1750 ork list

by Uberdark

So I have been playing around with a few new builds of late. Heck whatever, its still orks, and still a fast playing army, but at 1500 I feel pretty happy with my build as long as I don't play Spag. lol. What I have is a decently "balanced" take on all comers list at 1750 for the upcoming tournament. The last time I made a 1500 list and posted here, all of you helped me immensely to make that list the best I could get. So here is the new list.

Should 40K Missile Launchers Work Differently?

by SandWyrm

One of the first things that you learn as an Imperial Guard player is that infantry missile launchers are overcosted. At 15 points,  a missile launcher is 50% more expensive than an autocannon; yet it's about 30% less likely to take out a vehicle. To my mind, missile launchers should cost the same as an autocannon. With the difference in penetrating power offset by it's ability to shoot frag blasts when needed.

But then I got to thinking... What sort of overall 40K rules change would make missile launchers worth that extra 5 points; while also making them work more like their real-world counterparts: The Bazooka or RPG? Meaning a light anti-tank weapon that's highly portable.

So It's Necrons Next Then

by SandWyrm

So the next big wave of "rumors" has hit. Looks like Necrons are next. In the August/September timeframe. Which is a few months sooner than most expected. I'll hazard an educated guess and say we'll get Templars in November and Tau in Jan/Feb.

The ninjas are there to distract you from the fact that I could'nt find a funny picture of Warhammer players.

List Question: Battlewagon Orks

by SandWyrm

In my last post on Ork competitiveness, amidst the arguing about their randomness, Lehcyfer asked for an analysis of his Ork list. Which I didn't have time to do during the family festivities of Easter weekend. Now that I've had a chance to look it over though, I kind of like it.

My Thoughts On The Competitiveness Of Orks

by SandWyrm

Uberdark took issue with something I said about Orks in the comments to my last IG article. So rather than derail that conversation with Ork-talk, I figured I'd lay out my thoughts in a proper post.

A Long Time Ago... In An Amazon.com Galaxy Far Far Away...

by Uberdark

So I'm part of this email group of gamers and lo and behold he sends me this link today.  Mind you it has nothing to do with 40k, but i'll be damned if I am not going to share it, because well its the funniest thing I've read in months.

Basically a link to a Luke Skywalker Yavin Ceremonial jacket on Amazon.com.  Just read the comments and the hijinks ensue.
If you don't enjoy this, I will have to start playing WarmaHordes.  lol.

Fixing The Imperial Guard: Leadership/HQ

I know what you're thinking: "What?! You're not happy with the awesome codex you already have?"

Well no, not really, and it's been gnawing at me for a while.

My Cheating Army List

by SandWyrm

Heh. There's quite the row on BoLS right now about what an acceptable army list printout looks like. Evidently Army Builder's 4-page, deforesting wall-o-text printout is the be all and end all of army list creation methods, and anyone who thinks otherwise is a WAAC cheating scumbag.

Help! Kirby Is Eating Our Hobby!

No, not the lovable Nintendo character. Or the cool blogger from 3++ Is The New Black. No, the Kirby I'm talking about is Tom Kirby. The sometime CEO and current Chairman of the Board of the Games Workshop Group PLC.

Sun Tsu And The Art Of Stupid

by SandWyrm

Do you want to sound more intelligent than you actually are when discussing 40K? Do you want to give your half-baked theories an aura of respectability that will shield them from proper scrutiny? Do you want to read an old Chinese book instead of playing actual 40K games and learning from your mistakes? Well, have I got the thing for you. You see, there's this 2500 year old book called the "Art of War" that you can use to do just that.

Battle Reports: Uberdark vs. Caulynn Darr And Scottydont

by Uberdark

I'd like to take a moment and say wow.  just wow.  Yesterday I managed to go to g2d4 and play two awesome games.  Spag had originally set me up a game with scottydont but he was late in showing up, so caulynn darr and i threw down for a game of gk against my 1.5k orks tourney list ive been playing with.

Spaguatyrine's Grey Knights vs Gravemind's Blood Angel Jumper List

by Spaguatyrine

I got off work and stopped by my local gaming store to hopefully get in a game.  The Gravemind showed up just in time to play a game. I tried to play Uberdark, but he was afraid of the bright light shining off the grey armor of my Knights!.

Friday Night Tabletop Fight: SandWyrm vs. Dethtron At Adepticon

by SandWyrm

Most of the 40K blogging elite at Adepticon were busy on Saturday with the Team Tourney. But I managed to get a pick-up game in with Dethtron of Dick Move (part of the Ego of Tasty network). He'd brought along his Elysian Drop Troops. Which were aptly named, as he dropped a box of them on the way to the open gaming hall. Knocking quite a few bits off of one of his Vendettas. Fortunately I brought along some superglue. :)

A year in the making

By TheGraveMind

Roughly a Year ago today I joined The Back 40k. Since that time I've averaged a post a week (not to shabby), randomly updated my WIP blog Prey in 40k, and even did a guest post over at Warhammer 39,999. Even now I am appreciative of the original crew for having me, and I'm hoping I pump out many more good posts.

Grey Knights: Hey! The Sky Isn't Falling!

by SandWyrm

What was that moaning sound you heard last night?... the screaming?.... Well that was Uberdark's Orks as they surrendered to the might of the Imperial Guard at the end of turn 2. :)

Of Blood And Fur

By TheGraveMind

Spaguatyrine and I were able to get a game in this tuesday. I think it is only the second time we have ever played, and I have come a long way since then with my Blood Angels.

The Mission; Annihilation, the Deployment; Pitched battle. We agreed on 1750 and He had first turn.

Best 40k Moment

 by: uberdark

We all hear them.
"Back in the day, I played a feller' and single handedly killed 30 orks with one lasgun, and THAT was when a lasgun counted for something."
"This one time, at 40k camp!............"
"Cypher just popped out and had it out with them all."

Yep your own war stories.  I can't tell you how many times over the years I have heard reminiscing of the best moments in 40k.  We all share them, and I for one love hearing them.  So I will share a few of my favorite moments in 40k, and please share some of yours.

Kokomo Tourney/ K-Town Throwdown mission info/prize support

Ya like that?. I just totally named our tourney.  I have no clue if it will stick or not.  As many of you have been emailing me, I have been furiously writing down names and getting everything finalized.  Just so you know, here are the specifics:

The new army conundrum: or how i learned to stop playing orks and love something else

by Uberdark

So here I am spending yet another day, considering lists, looking at my orks.  I'm currently getting them ready for ard' boyz this summer, but I keep having this little itch at the back of my head.  It keeps saying: "Do a new army, paint more pretty things, and for the love of God don't make it RED!"

Making Sanguinary Guard More Competitive

by SandWyrm

Since we're talking about Descent-Of-Angels armies lately, I might as well chime in with my future plans for making the Emo-Wing more competitive vs. MSU armies.

There's No Crack Like ForgeWorld Crack

by SandWyrm

I was going to call it quits on the Imperial Guard for a while post-Adepticon and concentrate on other things (cough... Emo Wing... cough...). But just when you think you're free, they pull you back in!

Breakdown Of A Jumpers List.

By TheGraveMind

So Farmpunk shared around an email we got requesting Jump pack related Marines. I can't speak for the others but I get a bit giddy talking about my plastic flying men, and I'm always happy to share.

While I’m still trying out possibilities for my Blood angels in regards to a Jumpers list, I want to share what I’ve learned for others who want to give them a try. As I see it you have three main options. Hybrid jumpers, DOA, and The Sanguanary elite. Now Sandwyrm has a better concept of how to with his Emo-wing so I’ll let him explain that if he wants. From my understanding it is an all terminator list that trades invulnerable saves for mobility. I will be covering the hybrid jumpers and DOA armies.

Adepticon: LustWing vs. Tallarns

by SandWyrm

Chambers and I finally got a game in! Though we had to travel to Adepticon to do it. We played after my game with Dethtron on Saturday. The battle report for which will be coming on Friday. :)

Do you hate "Counts As" armies? Well prepare for your head to pop! He runs his Slaanish Terminators (Lovingly modeled and painted by Ron at From the Warp) using Space Wolves rules. Kirby would be proud. :)

Adepticon: Armies Of The Traitor Legions (and Daemons)

by SandWyrm

Finally, at 10 9 of the 92 91 armies I photographed at the 40K championships, we have Chaos Marines and Daemons.

Adepticon: Armies of the Filthy Xenos Scum ;)

by SandWyrm

Xenos comprised 28 of the 92 armies I photographed.

Adepticon: Armies Of The Space Wolves

by SandWyrm

Hey! It's the 500th B40K post!

At 10 of the 92 armies I photographed, here's the Space Wolves!

Adepticon: Armies Of The Blood Angels

by SandWyrm

At 17 of the 92 armies I photographed, here's the Blood Angels.

Adepticon: Armies Of The (Vanilla) Space Marines

by SandWyrm

Despite the newer flavors, armies from Codex: Space Marine still had the largest showing at Adepticon. With Blood Angels a very close second, and Wolves a distant third. So at 17 armies of the 92 I photographed, here's what people had:

Adepticon: Armies Of The Imperial Guard

by SandWyrm

There were 246 players in the 40K Championships, out of which I got pics of 92. Most of the rest didn't put their armies on display prior to game one. As there's so many pics, I'm going to break these up by type. We'll start with the Imperial Guard at 10 of the 92 armies I photographed.  Of which only a few were true Leafblower builds.

Adepticon: The Terrain

Adepticon: The 40K Championship Mission Pack

by Sandwyrm

Here's the info everyone's looking for on the Adepticon Championship missions for last Friday's preliminary rounds.

Adepticon: My Two Hours With Dan Abnett

by SandWyrm

My favorite event at Adepticon, believe it or not, actually turned out to be the Black Library roundtable discussion on Sunday. Dan Abnett was there, along with Nathan Long of Felix and Gotrek fame. As there were only twelve or so of us, we got to have a very interesting and personal discussion about their work. Abnett, in particular, was a riot. While Nathan had some very ah... interesting stories to tell from his days as a B-Movie writer in Hollywood.

Grey Knight Bitz

By TheGraveMind

So I'm sure there is a good following of grey knight interested people in the local indy area. I bought some grey knight stuff for conversions and I have all the good stuff left over. I have halberts, thunder hammer, stave, and all the heavy weapons, plus some bodies and extras. I'm looking for another set of the basic two handed force weapon for grey knights, and I need the above pictured Sniper/cloak bitz. They are from the Cadian command squad set I believe. I'm sure plenty of Inquisitor retinues are not using their snipers. I'm hoping to eventually have five of the cloak sets.
