So You're Interested In X-Wing: Part 2

by SandWyrm

Well, looks like my last article on X-Wing got SynSinn and Uberdark to buy in. I'm starting to get questions about what to buy, so I'll put off the discussion of X-Wing's gameplay in favor of showing you three decent lists that you can build off of the starter set.

Fix What's Really Broken

by SandWyrm

Not too long ago, SinSynn posted an article over on House of Paincakes where he told the story of his struggle with drug addiction. Because he wanted to cut through the bullshit and tell people the truth about what it's really like to go through that experience. Well now, because of a comment on my last post, I've got my own real-life story to share. Not about drug addiction, but about how the confusion of psychology with science skews our perceptions of health. Which, for reasons you'll see, is one of my major pet peeves. Because it has affected me personally time and again.

Addiction In Games

by SandWyrm

Various sites are reporting today that Dong Nguyen, the creator of the iOS/Android game "Flappy Bird" has decided to pull his game from both app stores. Reportedly because he felt that the game was "Too Addictive". Not having heard about the game before seeing this news, I did some quick Googling. Which took me to some interesting IGN reviews that question whether this addictive game is actually any good or not. Which got me thinking about addiction in games generally.

So You're Interested In X-Wing: Part 1

by SandWyrm

A lot of folks I run into are interested in X-Wing, but don't know much about it. So I thought that I'd write an article that describes the game generally, and hopefully answer some of the questions that I myself had before I bought in. Without getting lost in every little detail of the rules.

Let's dive in...

I Knew This Day Would Come...

by Sandwyrm

It started innocently enough with some free cards. Cast-offs from the other kids on the bus. Then my 7 year old asked if he could join the club after school. Mrs. Sandwyrm, not really knowing what a CCG is, signs him up before I can warn her off. Too late! She paid the fee and says we're now committed. The handout from the school then comes home, revealing that he has to bring his own cards. Next thing you know, we're at Target looking for a couple of starter sets.

It has us. There's no turning back now.

Becoming a better 40k general tactical #1-Winning the pre-game

By Spaguatyrine

With 6th edition comes a new phase of 40K. I call this the pregame phase.
There are often anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes of pregame warmups before turn one even starts. In my opinion, whether you win or lose will often be determined by the pregame phase and deployment. I will even be brash enough to say more than 50% of games are won in this critical first 15 to 30 minutes.
