The femtosecond laser system doesn't DETONATE missiles like the video shows, but it uses an extremely brief energetic pulse to sever electronic components and render the missile a dud. You don't need giant power generators to do it, you need modest power generation and a good capacitor. As I understand it, precise targeting through unpredictable air densities was the biggest hurdle at the time.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519319818452068646.post-10256444818187729632014-07-09T17:03:29.991-04:002014-07-09T17:03:29.991-04:00"Awe, the rare-earth-magnet cartridge is empt..."Awe, the rare-earth-magnet cartridge is empty. The paras...I guess the B in BEA stands for bull...

The parasite fighter concept has been tried before. It always fails when put up against a regular plane with mid-air refueling. It's also a lot saver to dock with a fuel probe than to dock two fuselages.

And the 3D printing thing? Can you imagine getting a PC_LOAD_LETTER error when printing a smart bomb? Probably more efficient to launch with multiple payloads, than a payload manufacturing system. Especially considering you need to carry the manufacturing materials as well.
CaulynDarrhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14556761303500891267noreply@blogger.com
