As it is set up now, grounded is an additional term used under the swooping mode.TheGraveMindhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02202256201375802641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519319818452068646.post-59423370595121857662012-08-20T22:23:17.316-04:002012-08-20T22:23:17.316-04:00The problem being that none of that is stated in t...The problem being that none of that is stated in the rules, and is why virtually everyone is awaiting a FAQ on it.

The only thing the rules tell you about a 'Grounded Flying Monstrous Creature' is that it can be charged and loses Jink. Unfortunately, no resolution is given to all the other statuses granted by Swooping (specifically, the Hard to Hit rule and the requirement to take further Grounded tests).

The 'Grounded' state is clearly a modification to the Swoop state, which must always proceed it--otherwise they obviously wouldn't have to tell you that you can be Assaulted, or more directly, they'd just tell you to treat a Grounded FMC as a Gliding FMC.

Since Grounded is only acting to modify Swoop, and they completely neglected to tell us what to do about Hard to Hit/Grounded Tests (or, in general, describe to us how a 'Grounded FMC' should handle these situations), virtually everyone is currently playing it as if the FMC maintains all of the traits of Swoop mode, minus Jink and the immunity to Assault. They're playing it that way because--for the time being--that's all the rules say.

It's rather obviously a case where they forgot a sentence or two from the rulebook (there was a pretty blatant case of this in 5th as well in regard to how to handle attack allocation in CC) and should be answered in the FAQ. Until then, we have no idea how to properly handle the Grounded state aside from the two changes from the Swoop state that are explicitly given. Even NOVA has had to go with that interpretation, alongside a huge caveat about how it will hopefully be FAQ'd prior to the event.Dodger3https://www.blogger.com/profile/13080674637620215681noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519319818452068646.post-29448135058555831662012-08-20T21:56:09.475-04:002012-08-20T21:56:09.475-04:00Hard to Hit is a rule applicable only to Swooping ...Hard to Hit is a rule applicable only to Swooping Flying Monstrous Creatures.

A Grounded Flying Monstrous Creature does not have this rule (and as such is shot normally), looses Jink, and can be assaulted as normal.

Note that 'Grounded' is essentially a state, just like Swooping or Gliding (hence the capitalization within the section).Anonymous Foodiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14362829012549159278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519319818452068646.post-35936308182104310152012-08-20T20:54:29.726-04:002012-08-20T20:54:29.726-04:00Great job man!!!!!!!!Great job man!!!!!!!!Spaguatyrinehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09459803772469387289noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519319818452068646.post-80044303450237426112012-08-20T17:25:56.255-04:002012-08-20T17:25:56.255-04:00Everyone, thanks! They list effects, but not the exact state. I never says grounded is no longer swooping, or that they lose Hard to hit. So we were playing that it still needs 6s to hit, but can be grounded again. (seeing it more as a Evade to quickly and clip something)

If it is ruled/FAQed on grounded that they are no longer hard to hit, I will most likely not be using Flying MCs as they will once again not be worth their points.

Anyways, given the rate I was failing 3+ grounding checks, I would have died from armor saves regardless. Question, though - how ...Way to grab some biomass.

Question, though - how are you failing 4 grounding checks in the same turn? After you're grounded, you're not flying anymore... so unless you Swooped 4 turns in a row, got shot, and failed each time (which you didn't) this strikes me as impossible. I believe it should have been normal hitting, wounding, and saving from that point on (which, coming from S5 AP5, probably would have meant a live Tyrant).Anonymous Foodiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14362829012549159278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519319818452068646.post-42334397072125964732012-08-20T14:35:14.287-04:002012-08-20T14:35:14.287-04:00I've never fully given up on Nids, but I still...I've never fully given up on Nids, but I still don't think they are very competitive, But while everyone else is still learning 6th, my experience with them helps pull me through I think. The only thing that has really changed for my nids is random charge length.

And my dice like to do an all-or-nothing approach. I can pass 8 4+ armor saves one turn, and fail all the next. In this tournament my tervigon pooped out 6, 5, and 9 gaunts. She clogged after the first time each game. My tyrant failed 4 3+ grounding checks in a row third game. But dice were much more "average" this time, and it was appreciated.TheGraveMindhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02202256201375802641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519319818452068646.post-55825788756648398232012-08-20T14:09:24.691-04:002012-08-20T14:09:24.691-04:00Cool.
