...I realize that this is a bit of thread necromancy

I just heard about how on the west cost a few of the tournaments there are using comp to set up the first battle and then letting the Swiss system take over from there. I thought that that was an intresting idea that would mitigate lists wouldn't hamstring players.Chambershttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18075294689773116021noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519319818452068646.post-90373220751958388952010-02-27T23:48:49.702-05:002010-02-27T23:48:49.702-05:00Hmmmnnn... So chipmunkers cant tank everyone, or they tank themselves, nor can friends all vote for their friends high, and others low. Sure it sucks if you play 4 decent guys and have to give one of them a "2" but what can you do?Matt Varnishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13581316485323711294noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519319818452068646.post-83583172768993640652010-02-25T17:44:17.031-05:002010-02-25T17:44:17.031-05:00I don't think there should be comp in the sens...I don't think there should be comp in the sense of lists of what you can't take, that just changes the meta, doesn't get fix it. As for scoring, sure, roll it into theme, etc. and make it player-judged, preferably by all players before the actual games (along with painting). It's a social event, let what's a "good" army or not be judged by the participants.sonsoftaurushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08466971377569066201noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519319818452068646.post-60168627256459581602010-02-24T16:53:43.652-05:002010-02-24T16:53:43.652-05:00I think I agree that the comp for the BMG tourney ...I think I agree that the comp for the BMG tourney actually forced me to come up with a better, more competitive list. As it would for any newer codex with the ability to fill roles like Anti-Tank from different FOC slots.

Certain roles need to be filled, and important ones need some redundancy. But a little bit of diversity can make you more resilient and give you some interesting tactical opportunities.

Problem is, the comp rules had the opposite effect on the pre-5th armies. They just don't have enough options to do what I did.SandWyrmhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02265244938930651317noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4519319818452068646.post-66232241284105759532010-02-24T16:49:10.717-05:002010-02-24T16:49:10.717-05:00Yep, looks a lot like the thoughts and rationale I...Yep, looks a lot like the thoughts and rationale I posted on Comp. Though I'd forgotten to state that Overall shouldn't win a second prize and that last place should get something. Typically the "beatdown boy" got a new brick of dice for their trouble.

Good write up and I've enjoyed seeing both of your experiences with that tournament. (Also, now I really want to play SandWyrm and see what nickname I end up with...)Dverninghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18098608506710554678noreply@blogger.com
