While the 40K Interwebs are gearing up to cry about 2-wound GK Terminators with Feel No Pain, I thought that I'd bring some clarity to the discussion. What is the real benefit of FNP rolls for different troops?

Math-Hammer: Vendetta with Heavy Bolters vs. Vehicles (Corrected)

Grats on the 1000th post! (On Librarium)
I've got a question for you: Do you still have your weapon/vehicle simulator? I'd be interested to know the stat dump on a vendetta with Heavy Bolters against different kind of vehicles, and the differences in kill/disable percentages.

The 30 Ways That People Win 40K Games
by SandWyrm
I'm reading a very good book right now called Strategy: The Logic of War and Peace, by Edward N. Luttwak. It's military focused for the most part, but there's lots of good insights in it for anyone that's in a competitive relationship with another person or group. It's going to provide fodder for a lot of future posts, that's for sure. :)
While reading it, I started to wonder... If one were to list all of the competencies that go into making someone a good 40K player, what would they be?

How Sharp Is Your Razorback?
by SandWyrm
In my continuing attempts to come up with a Blood Angels list from the new codex that can compete with my own Mech IG army, I've sort of settled on a MSU (Multiple Small Units) approach that can maybe hope to get across the field alive and stick assault troops in the IG's face. Part of that, though, is working out my transport and anti-tank options.

Why Snipers Aren't Competitive
by SandWyrm
Snipers are all sorts of cool in movies, there's no denying that. "Enemy At The Gates", despite it's flaws, is one of my favorite war films, after all. But that coolness just doesn't translate into competitiveness in 40K, where they're just not that useful.
New players will often add snipers eagerly to lists, thinking they must be great. While Vets avoid them like the plague. "Why?" you ask. Well, I'll tell you. (more...)

What Are The Odds?
by SandWyrm
Long-time readers will remember my waffling on whether to equip my Sentinels with autocannons or lascannons. To find out, I did a series of dice rolls to simulate 20 attacks and then used those to come up with my average chances of stopping or destroying a particular target. But I was never quite sure of my results. So... (more)
