We're giving away an entire army!

by wienas, from indy40k.blogspot.com
That's right. You read correctly.  We will be giving away an army as one of the many prizes at the Tournament of Championships on the 21st of July.  I wanted to talk about some of the great prize support that we are able to give away this year.

Upcoming Indy Event - 1500 pt 40k Tournament

By: Wineas

If you're like me, you went to register for Adepticon, only to find that every event you wanted to sign up for was already sold out.  Rather than drive to Chicago and pay to stay in some stranger's bed, I'm staying home and running a tournament right here in my back yard (That's not completely true.  It's in a store.  The store is close to my back yard, though).   If you're free, and want to get your 40k-on, come to Indianapolis and play with us!

A note on the Game 2 Die 4 tournament on May 14th

by Wienas

I just registered for the tournament at Games 2 Die 4 yesterday, and there were 3 or 4 slots left open.  So far, 30 people have signed up, so if you're planning on trying to make it, stop in and sign up or call the store at 317-271-4234.

See you there!

What do you look for in a tournament?

by Wienas

So we've had a pair of tournaments locally here in Indianapolis in the last week. Sadly, I was unable to attend the event at Games 2 Die 4 last week, but I had a great time this past weekend at the event run at the Game Preserve South.

To stop a Crusade

By TheGraveMind

Well, after my pity-party-post a few people had said they would like to get a game in on tuesday. It's good to have friends, and you're welcome GP south. The tuesday crowd has been slowly dwindling to 1 to 4 people on average, I think there were at least 6 this time. Besides the point, as I walked in, my first opponent seemed to be eagerly waiting for me. You may recognized the marines from Wienas and his Bloomington report. We agreed on 1850 to get me ready for my Bloomington adventure and to see how I could do against his list he had brought to down there the past weekend.

wienas plays in a tournament...and wins!

by wienas

I attended a tournament at the Game Preserve in Bloomington (home of Indiana University for the non-hoosier readers) this past weekend.  There were only around 13 players, and nearly half of those were from the Muncie area (home of Ball State University).  Among them were members of the Rites of Battle blog.

Project Space Marine

by Wienas

On my personal hobby blog (indy40k), I've started a series of tutorials chronicling the project that I'm currently working on.  Project Space Marine is an army consisting of 151 space marines, each from a different chapter.  The most recent tutorial is on the White Templars.  I'll repost it here:

hobby update - Howling Griffons

by Wienas

A small hobby update today.  I've been working feverishly on terrain for the tournament this weekend, and had to take a break last night.  I got this guy finished.  I've got to say, I had a great time painting this scheme.  It was very challenging, but I think he turned out pretty well.  I had to go back and re-touch the areas where the red and yellow meet at least a dozen times throughout the process.  The base is from Secret Weapon Miniatures.  Any questions or comments are welcome.

Tournament results - aka "You got rolled by a kid?!"

 by: Wienas

The tournament yesterday was a lot of fun.  Games 2 Die 4 is a really cool store with a focus on Flames of War and Warhammer Fantasy.  What impressed me the most was their selection of paints and supplies.  They carry an extensive selection of paints from Vallejo (Game Color, Model Color, AND Model Air), GW,  P3, and Army Painter.

As far as the tournament went, there were 15 players of which I finished 4th overall.  Farmpunk came in 3rd just above me.  The top 2 spots went to regular players from the local club.

My best moment was my embarrassing loss in game 1 to a  Daemon player.  He's around 13,  plays very well, and utterly destroyed my army.  What makes this funnier is that he forgot to bring on a unit of Fiends, who ended up staying in reserve the entire game.  I'll post some battle reports soon.

Battle Report: First Game Against Daemons

by: Wienas

I had been preparing to go to Ard Boyz this year, but family life intervened.  Fortunately, there is another local tournament on the other side of town at Games 2 Die 4.  So I'll be taking the Black Templars and trying them out against a new set of opponents.

How do you call out a cheater?

by Wienas

This is a question that I never thought I'd need to ask.  How do you go about bringing attention to a player who you believe to be deliberately cheating?

SciFi Shock Troops on pre-order from Wargames Factory

by: Wienas

Wargames Factory has some of their new SciFi Shock Troops on pre-order.  These would make a great addition to a Guard army.  I'm really looking forward to these, and hope to have some pics up once they release.

Check out a pair of video reviews that Beasts of War did of the sprue and of a painted model.

Adding to the Family

by: farmpunk

We've decided to add to our little enclave here at the back40k. Some of you may already have seen the first post by our new additions to the crew.

We're happy to be now including Wienas and TheGraveMind to our rag-tag band of writers.

As Some of you know, TheGraveMind comes from his blog, over at Predators and Prey in 40K.

Wienas comes from his own blogging experience at Indy 40K.

Sanguinary Guard WIP

by: Wienas

After much coercion, I got my FLGS to let me paint up some of their new Sanguinary Guard models.  I think someone at the store had already cherry-picked the sprue, because I was only able to build these 3 models.  The models look really cool, and are not as difficult to build as I have heard others say.

The model on the right will be carrying the Chapter Banner.

March - a month in review

by: Wienas

This month I accomplished a number of things:
  • Started work on my Ork army (see above). The theme will be a looted Imperial Tank Column, and I want the Orks to have a very uniformed, disciplined feel. I'm using heads from Micro Art Studio. I'm not quite happy with this first model. I'll be adding rolled up sleeves to the arms, to reinforce the uniformed look of the model, and I want to change the camo scheme. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment.
  • I cleared up my personal schedule to allow for weekly gaming to renew. I'm looking forward to posting some battle reports soon. I play at the Game Preserve South, in Indianapolis, IN, on Tuesday nights if anyone is interested in a game.
  • I also started this blog this month. While not a huge accomplishment, it has given me motivation to keep working on painting instead of being lazy in front of the TV.
Thanks to everyone who has stopped by my little slice of the internet recently, and stay tuned for more.
