Channeling My Inner Iron Man

by SandWyrm

The Dark Vengeance Chosen models have these nice little jewel-things in the middle of their chests. So I've been playing around with some lighting effects. :)

I'm going for speed on these guys, BTW. The finished chosen model in front was about an hour and a half start-to-finish. Made possible by some neat spray-painting tricks to get the weathered look without a lot of work. My old Tallern IG took about 4-6 hours each by comparison.

  1. Nice! The models are very detailed for a starter set aren't they?

    1. The starter set is a great value, and I love the models. But the $70 fliers, the $50 book, and the ugly old $20 special character sculpts for CSM aren't nearly as exciting. Fortunately, I have other games in mind for these models. :)

  2. I love the DV models (even the DA models). You have done an excellent job of creating a point of focus for each model with your lighting effect. Even the DA eyes draw attention. They look great.

Man, I really need to get an airbrush.

    1. Didn't use an airbrush on these. Just a few tricks with cans of model spray paint. Such as bounce-spraying and dusting.

    2. Can you explain these tricks?

  4. Very nice for a 'rush job'. I need to find a good read-through on how to get a good glow-effect.

Any idea how many points the starter set has provided this time around?

    1. Not yet. I've got the new codex right here next to me, and it's pretty, but I haven't bothered much with it yet.

  5. Those are looking great! Looks like you got your two DV sets. . . how many marines are you painting up total?

    1. At the moment I'm painting up 2 mirror-match forces for use in testing my own game, so the first run is 1 Commander, 6 Marines (2 squads), and an Assault Cannon Terminator for each side (red vs. green). The Chaos side is getting the AC Termie from my Space Hulk set.

After that comes the infantry. 20 Cultists (about 1/3 done so far), and 20 regular IG models; plus a few heavy weapons. When the cultists are done, I'll also have a nice little Necromunda gang painted up so that I can finally start playing that game.

After that I'll see what I would need for a 1500 point strictly-casual 40K Chaos force, and then decide whether I want to collect anything else in addition to what I have. I like the look of the new dragon and fiend models, but I doubt I'll be up for getting more than one of each at the price that GW is selling them for.
