*squeeeee!*
ReplyDeleteDon't raise my expectations. I want them as low as possible when I walk into the theater. :)
ReplyDeleteThese three movies are going to eclipse and bury the first six. Lucas did one thing right. He made the first six so the last three will be fucking awesome. Bring some, I use that word heavily, respect back to the frenchfries.
ReplyDeleteLast three? You do know that Disney plans a one-movie-a-year rate of production akin to what they're doing with Avengers, right? They're gonna get their $2.5B back (and then some) with as many movies as they can pump out.
DeleteCan't wait. Can't Wait. CAn't wait...why is armada in my amazon cart?
ReplyDeleteSkeptical. It seems they really running on nostalgia...I mean seriously, han and fucking chewie???
ReplyDeleteGET OUT!
DeleteHan and Chewie are part of the Star Wars Universe, and big drivers in the story arc.
DeleteI suppose it was nostalgia to have Yoda, Obi Wan, Palpatine, Anakin/Vader and Amidalla in the prequels?
Heh, it was stupid in those movies as well.
DeleteSeriously tho, I am simply guarding myself from getting Phantom-Menaced. If I expect it to be shit, then I will never be disappointed.
DeleteHan is supposed to die Obi-Wan like, or something.
DeleteOoops! Did I say that?
The emphasis on practical effects can only be a good thing.
ReplyDeleteSay what you want about Abrams, but his visual effects usually strive for photo-realism. So much so that it's hard to tell what's a cheat and what's practical.
DeleteThough the effects themselves where never the direct problem with the prequels. Only that they where used to drive the plot and not in service to it. They where ILM tech demos, not movies.
The other thing that the overdone effects in the prequels did was constrain the cinematography. Almost all of the sets were virtual, and Lucas was too lazy to figure out ways of filming the actors doing anything but walking and talking slowly past a green screen.
DeleteCompare that to Avatar, where the sets were still green, but much more complex in structure. So that the actors could run, jump, and do more interesting things.
