by Anonymous Foodie

Supreme High Lord Archon Khira'lyth cordially invites you to partake in the festivities of this coming Saturday, April 3rd, 11 o' clock at the Keystone Game Preserve.

Highlights include...
... a Splinter Fleet of Kraken nearing 8000 points...

If anyone feels up to it, you know where to find us.

Battle Report: Lustwing vs. Sisters for the Rat Skull

by Chambers

A couple of weeks back I had the opportunity to pack up the family and make our way over to Indy. I might have stashed an army in the back of the car while packing. Graciously, our wives let us get away for the afternoon on Saturday.

A Good Critique of the Current Tourney System

by SandWyrm

Stelek posted a good in-depth critique of the US tourney system on YTTH couple of days ago. Including an excellent examination of how different pairing systems work. It's got a few bad words in it, but is otherwise free of his usual emo-drama. In fact, it's the best posting he's done in a long, long, time.

Finished Death Compnay

I finally finished the Death Company unit. I'll deliver these to the FLGS tonight, where I hope to get a game in.

Fear the Darkness - Heavy Support

by Anonymous Foodie

Despite the fact that my troops come equipped with some great anti-tank (Lances on Raiders and Blasters in squads) even I have the urge to "bring out the big guns!!" once in a while. And by once in a while, I mean all the time.

The Heavy Support section of the Dark Eldar codex is about the same as any other part; not stuffed to the gills, but effective and varied. Again we have three choices here, and they're actually not too shabby for the most part.

A Real-Life Tervigon?

by SandWyrm

In the comments for my last battle report, Ghengis Vaughn said...

"I apologize for posting out of context of the current thread but could you please tell me what kind of bug that is for your initial picture? It really bothers me on some level and I don't know why. I think its that weird indentation in the middle of its back where those little "vessels" appear to have popped. I had to stop reading your batrep and go back to look at it several times. Again, sorry for the random post. It just really freaks me out."

What Does A Competitive Guard Army Cost?

by SandWyrm

I don't think it comes as a surprise to anyone that 40K is an expensive hobby. Most of the expense, however, is hidden in many small purchases done over time. But how many of us have stopped to think about how much a typical army costs? Especially a competitive one that has to have multiples of certain weapons like meltas?

Shadowsun, won't you come?

by: farmpunk

Daedalus Nix came to Indianapolis for some job training, and sent SandWyrm and I an e-mail asking for a game. SandWyrm had the flu, and I was more than willing to give Daedalus a game.

Daedalus plays Tau, and this was his 2nd 'official' game. I let him choose what list of mine he would play down at the good 'ol FLGS.

Battle Report: Facing The Ugly Bugs At Last

by SandWyrm

Man, was I jones-ing for a game. Work, Wife, Kids, and the 4th flu/cold of the season had conspired to keep me out of action for the past few weeks. Made all the worse by not getting a game in with Chambers when he came up for a visit. So when I got the go-ahead from the Wife on Sunday, I swore I wasn't going home until I got to play some 40K!

Don't handicap yourself

First, I really enjoy the Back40K; you guys do a great job on there.

As you might have guessed from the subject line, this is going to be in reference to your '4 Things' post from awhile back. I've read it and re-read it and I think it has improved my list building, so thanks for that.

I have a special request however. I have been playing a lot recently with a pure Grey Knight army. So, no Inquisitor, no stormtroopers, etc. My question for you is, how do I meet the '4 things' criteria with only Grey Knights? Can it be done? I picked up a bunch of models used, so I'm not limited by that (well, I only have one dread built atm...) Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated.
sorry I didn't get around to this over the weekend, I had a full plate. Here goes my take on pure GK's:

Finished Blood Angels Sgt. WIP Death Company

I finally got this guy finished. I tried some weathering on the jump pack exhausts and on the bottoms of his boots.

WIP Blood Angels Sgt

Work continues on the Vanguard Veteran Sgt. I've got the Death Company squad assembled and primed. I should have some pics of that up in the next couple of days.

Fear the Darkness - HQ

by Anonymous Foodie

Every army needs a leader, someone to inspire and command the troops on the battlefield. Granted, in the case of the Dark Eldar it's less "inspire" and more "threaten", but hey, whatever gets the job done, right?

Reader Email: 4 Things My Army DOESN'T Have

BMG tourney: farmpunk's games

 By: farmpunk

I'm concatenating all of my battle run-downs from the Blue Moon Games Tournement into one Tourney report, rather than 3 Battle reports. I forgot to take a lot of pics, but had some fun games.

also, I'm sorry it took me so long to get this up. I got busy the week after, and of course, I forgot to finish what I started.

Fear the Darkness - Fast Attack

by Anonymous Foodie

Not gonna lie, what really brought me around to the True Kin was the idea of an army where everything was able to move 24" a turn. An army of Raider-mounted warriors screaming across the battlefield with unmatched speed and maneuverability (even though both are matched and even outclassed at times... go figure). Still, the concept remains true, and while we may not be the flat-out fastest (here's looking at you, Star Engines) we can still do "silly amounts of fast" more efficiently than any other army out there.

Army Showcase - Deathwing

From Deathwing Army

I wanted to start things off by showcasing my only finished army to date - the Deathwing.

Above you can see my Belial conversion. He uses Dreadnought leg armour for his shoulder pads, and a custom Storm Bolter.

Below is my Librarian. I liked the model so much that this is the only non-converted model in the army.

For the Assault Squad, I used Ron's method of painting banners.

For the tactical Terminator Squads, I used the Assault on Black Reach Terminators with bits from the Dark Angels upgrade sprue.

A Little Color Theory - Part II

by SandWyrm

The Munsell Color Wheel

In "A Little Color Theory - Part I", I talked about the color primaries, pigments, and how we perceive the colors we see around us. So now it's time to build on that information and learn how to properly mix the colors we want.

Fear the Darkness - Elite Edition

by Anonymous Foodie

Welcome back, friends, to the Dark City.

Today's meander through the shadows and alleyways will take us through some of the City's finest highlights; from the gladiatory arenas of the Wych Cults, to the deepest, darkest dungeons of the heamonculi where we will see some of their finest creations. And watch the shadows on the way... if they start hissing at you, it's a bad sign.

Traveling Game

by Chambers

So the wife, the kid and I are all packing up and headed to Indy in a week. While it will be good to see everybody and catch up, lets be honest I am really looking forward to pushing some little plastic men around a table and rolling dice. I am even more exited since this will be the first time that I get to try out my shinny new Lust-Wing army.

Please Excuse The Mess...

We're experimenting (accidentally) with other layouts. Things may be wacky for a while.

Edit: Ok, order (mostly) restored. :)

Those Necron Punks!

by SandWyrm

I should have done this last year, but... :)

It's amazing what you can do in Photoshop when you have a cool Vendetta picture and a couple of hours to burn. I wanted to show some corn country with a retro 80's flair to communicate the feel of the blog. Well, that and how vain Necrons can be.

I hope you all like it!

V Is For Vendettas... Finished!

by SandWyrm

Now I know why Vendettas and Valks aren't a more common sight on the battlefield. Not only are they about 3x more complicated than a Chimera to put together, but they're a real bear to paint as well.

A Little Color Theory - Part I

by SandWyrm

After all the comp discussion last week, I feel like relaxing a bit. So I'm going to put on my art teacher hat and talk about one of my favorite subjects: Color!

Now you might think: "What is there to learn?" But in fact color is a huge subject, and learning a bit about it can have a very positive impact on your miniature painting choices. So I'm going to do a series of posts on what color is, how to mix it, and how to choose effective color schemes for your minis.

So Typical...

by SandWyrm

Why... so... Lame?

So DeffRollas are now the DEATH OF MECH! Yeah, whatever.

Like Nob Bikers and IG Air Cav alpha-strikes, it'll take about 3-5 months for the Deff-Rolla spam lists to come and go. Afterwards Mech will still be king, because we'll all still be playing 5th Edition 40K.

But of course we've been here before. Why face reality when you can wish it away?

Saying Goodbye...

by SandWyrm

I'm afraid I have to announce a recent passing of great importance to the Indianapolis 40K community.
