I Hear His Bark Is Worse Than His Bite...

by Sandwyrm

Ok, so it's obviously just a WHFB version of the 40K Eldar Avatar. But on the other hand it's probably the coolest looking Avatar model that GW has ever put out. Especially if you were to model up an Exodite force around it.

Swords, metal claws, and skull decorations... Very un-treeman like. The Tolkien lover in me is horrified. But the rest of me kind of likes it's twisted Miyazaki flavor. Price is too high, of course, but not as unreasonable as most of the other large kits that GW has put out during the past 2 years. Here's hoping the plastic they chose is strong enough to keep the branches from breaking off during play.

Four out of Five Stars. :)

  1. It's too busy for me. When I look at it it makes my eyes hurt, literally. My eyes can't rest on a specific part of the model without being pulled somewhere else. It's driving me to madness. GW has managed to sculpt a true eldritch abomination.

    1. Agreed. But it actually works here. Not saying GW is smart enough to do that deliberately though. :)

  2. I dunno looks like he's got on Kinky Boots. I'm not sure if that's treeman like or not?

    1. Is there an GW Elf/Eldar model that DOESN'T have kinky-boots?

    1. Ok, I really don't need the image of copulating treemen in my head. Thanks.

  4. I'm. Eagerly awaiting the wood elf release as I have a small exodite eldar force that remains unbuilt in a box. Someday...

  6. This is the Durthu build from the same kit that can also build a Treeman Ancient and a Treeman. Both of the other options are a lot less Avatar-like (I really think if the paint job was not done with a fiery glow and done in a cooler color, not near as many Avatar comments would have been made). Also, this model will be MUCH larger than the Avatar model and will likely not work as an Avatar proxy. However, it may work for a Wraithknight.

    1. Current official Avatar model is much larger than the RT/2E one. At this point, just model up what looks cool. If you're still playing, it's not because of the quality of GW's rules. So go wild and have as much fun with the conversions as you can. In a grimdark world of rules-suck, no sane person is going to care if your new Exodite Avatar is too big compared to the old one.

    2. Agreed, and forge world 's version is huge, do i think this would work fine. Or maybe an exodite wraith lord is in order.

  7. The Forgeworld one is big, yes, though not this big.

  8. Looks too much like a demon/Avatar. Sure, it's (over) loaded with detail and looks pretty, but I think it fails its intent, which is to be an angry walking tree.
