World of Warships: IN SPAAAAAAAACE!

by SandWyrm

Overdone (and late) April Fools joke, or a new feature? I'm really not sure, but you get to fly the Space Battleship Yamato, so it's all good. :)

Do I Sell The New Starships Before They're Taken Away? (oops... can't)

The Enterprise has two destroyers bolted on. Wishing it turned into the SDF-1. :)

  1. I played a game in the Galaxy Class yesterday -- HOLY CRAP. It was actually pretty awesome! If that's representative of Tier 10 gameplay (Des Moines, Yammy, etc.) that's going to be a great time....

    1. I was a little underwhelmed by the Yamato, but that's probably because everyone started in range of each other.

  2. Since gold is finally in the game, I bought the Sims and the Atlanta. The Atlanta is good, but the Sims is utterly amazing. Give it the steering upgrade and it turns like a skateboard. :)

    1. Historically, the Atlanta is an AA cruiser. Part of the shift in the surface fleet to protect carriers from aircraft and subs instead of for general gunfire.

Man I so want to play this. Still waiting on my beta application.

I started playing Tanks in the meantime.

    2. The Atlanta in-game is a dakka-hose. Sheer volume of fire drowns you out...

    3. Yeah, the Atlanta puts out dakka as quick as a St. Louis, and that's not even counting the secondary AA batteries that you can designate a target for, but not control directly. Plus you have torps if you find yourself doing a close drive-by of something.

I hit a Battleship with all four tubes at point blank range yesterday and did like 8000 points of damage to it. Only took a few gun rounds to finish it off.

Downside is that the Atlanta is a glass cannon, and can't take many hits. So you have to very carefully use Islands to block with, or linger right on the edge of engagement range where only you and your target can trade fire.

    4. It looks like the firing arcs are also very high (low velocity...?) so aim might also be an issue? I love the Aoba and Nagato, they're snipers....

    5. The Atlanta is harder to range in with than the St. Louis.

BTW: Had a good game with my Atlanta last night. Killed 3 Pensacolas and another Atlanta (all same tier). Though it was a little sobering to see the other undamaged Atlanta go down after just 3 full broadsides from its mirror-match. That's how vulnerable it is to return fire.

  3. According to some of the other guys in the WWPD clan, buying some of the preorder ships for WoWS, DOES get you into closed Beta.
I don't think there's been anything official about it yet, but what is being said on forums is that buying ships lets you in.

    1. Yes, that's a thing. I bought the Japanese Cruiser and am downloading the client now.

    2. Didn't finish installing until midnight. Stupid Uverse bittorrent throttling. Took 15 minutes to get the first 5 gigs, then over an hour for the last one. Managed to play 3 co-op tier 1 games. 6 kills no losses.

    3. Woot! Which lines were you going to run?

    4. Japanese cruisers and battleships initially. I really like the look of the Japanese Mogami and Takao classes. Some of the prettiest ships of the period.

But I am eyeing those plucky American tin cans. I also can't wait for the French ships. They had a very advanced, but underrated fleet. The all-ahead main battery on their battleships will probably have a very interesting impact on the game as well.

    5. The Sims has destroyed any interest I have in grinding up the US Destroyer line. It's just that good.

Stopped on the Jap Battleship line at the Kongo once I got the Atlanta and decided that I like cruisers best. The BBs can take punches, but they just don't put out dakka fast enough for my taste.

The Cleveland is like an Atlanta with more guns. :)

Carriers are fun (I'm up to the Saipan), but when I play them I just don't feel like I'm doing a whole heck of a lot. Then I spend the last half of the game desperately trying to sink the destroyers that are after me with torpedo planes that they can easily dodge.

Really looking forward to the German and British BB/Cruiser lines.

    6. Apparently they introduced a bug that gives 0 armor to turrets. Making HE dakka way too good right now.

    7. I've also heard since the dev team is all Russian and super patriotic now, we're going to see a Russian tech tree filled with paper prototypes before we see the full Royal Navy and Kriegsmarine.
