It's kind of a fun list, not the hardest I could have brought, but I also didn't tailor it because of missions. I figured that if I'm really only going to be able to play 1st round, I might as well bring a list for some fun.
Game 1: MWolford's Eldar
Hybrid Eldar. This would be fun:
HQ:
Farseer (fortune, guide, ghosthelm, rune armor, runes of witness, runes of warding, spirit stones, shuriken pistol, Witchblade) 263pts
Warlock (enhance, Rune Armor, Shuriken pistol, Witchblade)
Warlock (Embolden, Rune Armor, Shuriken Pistol, Witchblade)
Warlock (Conceal, Rune Armor, Shuriken pistol, Singing Spear)
Magun Ra 422pts
4 Dark Reapers
1 Dark Reaper Exarch (Fast Shot, Tempest Launcher)
Elites:
4 Wraithguard 180pts
1Warlock (conceal, rune armor, shuriken pistol, Witchblade)
5 Harlequins (4ccw, 1Harlequin's Kiss, 2fusion pistols, 3 shuriken pistols) 152pts
1Troupe Master (Power weapon, Shuriken pistol)
5 Howling Banshees 283pts
Howling Banshee Exarch (war shout, acrobatic, Banshee Mask, Shuriken pistol, Executioner)
Wave Serpent (TL Shuriken catapults, TL Starcannons, Energy Field, Spirit Stones, Vectored engines)
Troops:
3 guardian jetbikes 66pts
19 Guardians (Brightlance platform) 222pts
1Warlock (conceal, Rune Armor, Shuriken pistol, Witchblade)
9 Dire Avengers 332pts
1Dire Avenger Exarch (Bladestorm, Defend, Diresword, Shuriken pistol)
Wave Serpent (Energy field, Spirit Stones, Vectored engines, Star engines, TL Shuriken catapults, TL Scatter Laser)
5 Pathfinders 120pts
Fast Attack:
Vyper (Shuriken cannon, TL shuriken catapults) 50pts
Heavy Support:
Falcon (Holo-field, Spirit Stones, Bright lance, TL shuriken catapults, Pulse laser) 190pts
War Walker Squadron 220pts
War Walker (spirit stones, dual scatter laser)
War Walker (spirit stones, scatter laser, Brightlance)
War Walker (spirit stones, scatter laser, Starcannon)
so that was the list. a bit Eldar potpourri. I got first turn, He infiltrated his pathfinders to my right, close to my table edge (because of the diagonal deploy). I had my platoon on my left hunkered down in a building, with Exorcists behind it. We didn't have much of any cover in the middle on my side, my far right had a large mountain, and his center had a building.
I lined up most of my transports across the center, with the russ in the middle.
I had Immos on the outside edges, and the cannoness on the right end, in case I needed someone to get up the mountain to deal with rangers.
With the rangers in the building close to me, they would be easy to deal with. Dark Reapers went in the building in his center, with the bikes, vyper, and Seer Council behind the same building. his guardians were to the left of that building sort of out in the middle. His gravtanks were in the far left corner, well out of range of anything I had.
I went forward 12" with pretty much all the Sisters, and smoked, the left Immo flamed one Ranger out of the building. The cannoness went forward a little, then would drop back in case War Walkers outflanked behind me (but didn't). I shook the vyper, and killed a couple of guardians.
He didn't do much to me in shooting, and my Psychic hood blocked psychic maneuvers.
I torched a few of the Dark Reapers, who blew up the Immo in front of them. I ended up killing them off with shooting. I pushed him back into his corner, and eventually made the guardians run, and killed the Vyper, seer council (psycannons eat them up), burned up the Harlies (Heavy flamers ftw), Dire Avengers and their serpent, had the lone jetbike in CC, and killed the Pathfinders. I easily had 3 objectives, and deployed 1/2" outside of another. I got a major, and all 4 bonus.
Game2: Ian's CHaOs!
Even though I have an old codex, I like to see Spikey marines across the table. Esp. if They've got Daemons, because I usually have Psycannons. Psycannons put Daemons down.
HQ:
Chaos Lord (Terminator armor, Combi-melta, Daemon Weapon) 150pt
Elite:
4 Terminator Champions (Icon of Khorne, 1 pair Lightning claws, 1 Hflamer, 1P-fist, 1Chainfist) 230pts
Chaos Dreadnought (2 Dccw, E.Armor) 115pts
Chaos Dreadnought (2 Dccw, E.Armor) 115pts
Troops:
9 Chaos Space Marines (Icon of Chaos Glory, 2 Meltaguns) 270pts
1Aspiring Champion (Power Fist)
Rhino (E.Armor)
9 Chaos Space Marines (Icon of Chaos Glory, 2 Meltaguns) 270pts
1Aspiring Champion (Power Fist)
Rhino (E.Armor)
9 Khorne Berserkers (plasma pistol) 270pts
1Skull Champion (Power Fist, Personal Icon)
7 Lesser Daemons 91pts
7 Lesser Daemons 91pts
7 Lesser Daemons 91pts
Heavy Support:
Land Raider (Daemonic possession, Dozer Blades) 245pts
Greater Daemon 100pts
Right Table, Wrong game. I set up on the close table quarter.
I wasn't sure what to think about this game, as it was control table quarters, and He could DS stuff in. The only real issue we had was terrain. We'd agreed that we would do TLoS, and Area. We didn't agree on what that meant, apparently. I should have specified it as TLoS, models in terrain pieces are in cover. CHaOs! thought it meant TLoS, all terrain is Area lvl3 (like in the old 4th ed codex) we argued about it. I just made sure I could see stuff during my movement.
I did get annoyed that I couldn't see the towering Daemon Prince on the other side of a ruin that went up to his Belly, because it was "area" (lvl3). He died anyway. Psycannons do that to Daemons.
How the game went:
I deployed, having won first turn, about 1" back from the center arc for deployment. I took the left side of my deployment zone. With alternating squads, Immos on the flanks, and chimeras near the middle, exorcists in the rear, Russ in Center of front line.
He Stole the initiative, and steamed his Land Raider forward 12", and smoked. He also rushed a rhino forward, and smoked it. One of the dreads on the left flank frenzied, and ran forward a little. In return for putting the big Raider in my face, surged the Platoon Command Squad Chimera forward, disembarked, and killed a Land Raider.
Sure, they were going to get eaten my Berserkers. But those brave 60pts of Guardsmen just bagged a Land Raider. They get *Gold Stars*.
There was a lot of shooting, and some maneuvering, and hiding behind walls of mobile (and immobile steel) while shooting things. I killed off the Dreads, and was pushing into his table quarter, controlling the left half of the board, contesting my right hand side of the board, and not controlling his table quarter.
I was surprised, when we counted up, I had a Major Victory. with 2 bonus points.
Lesson: define terrain more clearly.
Game 3:
SandWyrm. I'd really been hoping to play Orks, honestly. Even with the KP handicap. I wanted to kill lotsa stuff, not just tanks.
We lined up, and I put everything on the board, since I get no reserves manipulation, and SandWyrm has heavy reserves manipulation. He took some pics of the battle.
SandWyrm put forth:
HQ
205 CCS w/4 x Melta, Astro, Fleet, Chimera (ML/HF)
Elites
160 5 IG Stormtroopers w/2 x Melta, Chimera (ML/HF)
160 5 IG Stormtroopers w/2 x Melta, Chimera (ML/HF)

Heavy Support
165 Leman Russ Demolisher w/Hull Heavy Flamer
165 Leman Russ Demolisher w/Hull Heavy Flamer
300 LR Battle Tank & LR Extermator w/Hull Heavy Flamers
Total: 2500 points; 24 KP Normally; 52 KP In Mission 3
Which was similar to my 24KP / 52KP list for mission 3. I had a few big bricks, and he was able to squadron some stuff to get fewer KP's.
Turn 2, before I let loose the juice. SandWyrm's still got all his tanks
I destroyed the front 2 chimeras (center 3) in SandWyrm's formation, completely torching the Vets in the Front Chimera. One of the Squadoned russes went down as well. I think I shook the other one in the assault phase (using faith to push for Str5), then actually doing something.
I held back most of my Rhinos in case of outflanking Vendettas or IGST Chimeras. I left the platoon in it's cover with a Sister Squad nearby for Book Coverage.
Eventually The vendettas came in, I shook the one that came in (just in front of where my platoon is). Some Chimera came in from that same flank, nearer to the ruins, and didn't manage a lot. I got my GK's out, and moved them up to multi-assault the IST's and IGST's, and their chimera. GKT's kick booty.
It's cool to have a big, nasty unit that's good at Shooting AND Close combat. I don't usually have a CC unit.
as it ground on, I had multiple units crawling all over SandWyrm's tanks, and getting good penetration rolls, while he was shaking a lot of my tanks.
It was a good game though.
I had really figured SandWyrm and I would grind each other to a tie, and then ORKS would win our local, which would have been hard for us to live down.
I finished the day with 64BP's, and I think 4000 or so VP's. I didn't kill nearly as much as a lot of people reported, but I didn't need to to do well.
Now I'll help some guys refine their lists, and give 'em some practice games. Then feverishly read results when I return from the "No 'ard Boyz Round 2 for Joo! Joo go to da Family Weddin"
have fun out there guys.
I want a game with you.
ReplyDeleteYou'd better bring your own camera. Farmpunk always forgets his.
ReplyDeleteNot that I'm any better, but I've got a decent one built into my phone. :)
hmmmm......I could use some practice against Inquisition too. Can't hurt to get in a game before 'ard boyz.
ReplyDeleteUgh. If that Eldar guy wants any advice for next year's Ard Boyz, feel free to send him my way...I can write him a hybrid list if he insists, but it'll be far better than that. I understand a lot of people are limited to 'normal stuff + whatever I own' for Ard Boyz, and that it's free so there's nothing to lose - but confidence is hard to maintain if you KNOW you're about to lose, and if it happened every round? Well...We want people to KEEP PLAYING. lol
ReplyDeleteAnyway, while the Chaos list also looks light, it's not terrible, and I don't want to take anything away from your achievement (50 Gamerscore!) Farmpunk - congrats on winning, and I wish I'd have seen the game with Sandwyrm, because you two sound like you have great games. Games with history are better, IMO - it adds that extra dimension it's hard to get with relative strangers.
