So tomorrow I'm going to go play in a local tourney, one with some confusion and miscommunication. I've been collecting my WH codex only 1750 force, and painting and converting to get it up to par.
One thing I've been thinking about lately, brought about by some local drama and misunderstanding, is more or less Sportsmanship.

A collection of skulls
by TheGraveMind
It has been a busy past week, but I've had some time to think and work on models. I've thought about fluff, budget, schedules and Army soul searching. I've came to one absolute conclusion, I enjoy armies that want to dismember you! Also, begin the train of thoughts.

Battle Report: First Game Against Daemons
by: Wienas
I had been preparing to go to Ard Boyz this year, but family life intervened. Fortunately, there is another local tournament on the other side of town at Games 2 Die 4. So I'll be taking the Black Templars and trying them out against a new set of opponents.

I've added a new feature to indy40K: The Indy Blog List.
You can check out what other gamers are up to across the metro Indianapolis area. We have a diverse group of gamers, so you should be able to find something to your liking.

What's the point?
by: TheGraveMind
So the ball is rolling and it seems most people are getting ready for Ard Boyz. Looking back at the missions from last year, it seems kill points were either the primary objective or the secondary modifier to victories. How many kill points is you're list going to have?

There are things that make me geek out in strange ways. I've got a background in Field Biology, and statistics are one of my weak spots. oh heavens I can stare at data and graphs for hours, loving it.

How do you call out a cheater?
by Wienas
This is a question that I never thought I'd need to ask. How do you go about bringing attention to a player who you believe to be deliberately cheating?

SciFi Shock Troops on pre-order from Wargames Factory
by: Wienas
Wargames Factory has some of their new SciFi Shock Troops on pre-order. These would make a great addition to a Guard army. I'm really looking forward to these, and hope to have some pics up once they release.
Check out a pair of video reviews that Beasts of War did of the sprue and of a painted model.

The gaunts go marching!
by: TheGraveMind
With my ever vigilant eye for the possible velociraptor threat (always good to be aware), I started thinking about my hormagaunts. Not only are they very raptor like, but I've lovingly nicknamed them the raptor brood. But today, I'm keeping away of any raptor. So I decided to work on my Anti-Raptor Fighting Force, ARFF. My termagants.

Adding to the Family
by: farmpunk
We've decided to add to our little enclave here at the back40k. Some of you may already have seen the first post by our new additions to the crew.
We're happy to be now including Wienas and TheGraveMind to our rag-tag band of writers.
As Some of you know, TheGraveMind comes from his blog, over at Predators and Prey in 40K.
Wienas comes from his own blogging experience at Indy 40K.

Army goals; Surviving and killing. Part 1
by TheGraveMind
This is my first post here, so I figured I'd try and make it a good one. My goal is for a (five?) part series. This is spurred by this tourney’s results. This is a big deal in my world because it is the first time the new nids have done well in a tournament.

Battle Report: First Game Against New Blood Angels
by Wienas
Tuesday I got in a game at the GP South store with a player trying out his new BA list, we'll call him Mr. Baracus. I was excited to test out my Black Templars against the new hotness, but also rather nervous. The older my codex gets, the harder time I have dealing with the new nasties that pop up in the newer books.
How Sharp Is Your Razorback?
by SandWyrm
In my continuing attempts to come up with a Blood Angels list from the new codex that can compete with my own Mech IG army, I've sort of settled on a MSU (Multiple Small Units) approach that can maybe hope to get across the field alive and stick assault troops in the IG's face. Part of that, though, is working out my transport and anti-tank options.

You sir, made me laugh.
by: farmpunk
I read this post over on Sons of Taurus, and laughed and laughed. to get the full picture, you might need to read this over at Bell of Lost Souls.
why is it painting competition puts competitiveness in a whole new, absurd light.

I Think I Finally Have Some Local Painting Competition
by SandWyrm
So I went down to the FLGS for the first time in almost a month tonight (stupid work...), and what should I find, but the best looking Ork army I've ever seen.

The lists are in!

The lists are in for the Warpstone Flux April 2010 LineBreaker armylist challenge!
go over and take a look! Vote!
SandWyrm and I are defending our winning streak. We've won all 3 so far this year, and are hoping to make it 4.
SandWyrm wrote up a nasty Tau list to kill 3 Baneblades, and I went with Blood Angels dropping from the skies to kill the 3 Baneblades.

Info for the May 1rst Tourney
by SandWyrm
I went down to Games 2D4 last night to get the info for the May 1rst 40K Club Tourney. Here's some pics of the only copy they had available. At that time they had 10 players signed up out of a possible 20.

Sanguinary Guard WIP
by: Wienas
After much coercion, I got my FLGS to let me paint up some of their new Sanguinary Guard models. I think someone at the store had already cherry-picked the sprue, because I was only able to build these 3 models. The models look really cool, and are not as difficult to build as I have heard others say.
The model on the right will be carrying the Chapter Banner.

Something Cool From Comp-Land?
by SandWyrm
I was listening to the Adepticon interviews at 40K Radio when these guys came on:
http://www.rankingshq.com/
Believe it or not, they're from Australia, land of super-comp.
It's not a perfect ladder system, but it's definitely a good start. You can track your casual games or have your tournament organizers upload your competition scores.
Definitely worth checking out.

Converting Set-Back Chimeras - Part II
by SandWyrm
In part one of this series, I showed you how to cut up the old standard Chimera kit, sand it, and assemble the roof pieces for the set-back look. Now we're going to clean up the seams so you don't even know that they're there.

I like going to tourneys. I am often perplexed by the seemingly random restrictions shops put on their tourneys through Comp, or through just simply disallowing certain things.
I was looking forward to a tourney at Games to Die for, one of the local shops I'd never been to. So I checked their store forums for tourney rules, comp, points, etc... and I found my WH army was banhammered.

A Question Of Focus
by SandWyrm
I ran across something in the tech world this week that sort of epitomized the way most folks approach list-building for 40K. In a high-stakes game that's much more expensive to play than ours. :)

Blood slathered corpses and nightmarish dreams, these are a few of my favorite things
by Anonymous Foodie
Like all good Archons, I have some ideas on what I'd like to see in the new codex. I won't go into any new units or "wouldn't this be cool" ideas, but rather a simple update of "how to make our current units mesh with 5th ed".
First of all, the general concept.
Fast, mobile, hard-hitting - all concepts that have been with the True Kin since their conception. This is balanced by a relative fragility that can make a single bad turn (or even a decisive roll) turn the tide of battle moreso than most (if not all) other armies. A vet's army, but one that is very rewarding to play.

March - a month in review
by: Wienas
This month I accomplished a number of things:
This month I accomplished a number of things:
- Started work on my Ork army (see above). The theme will be a looted Imperial Tank Column, and I want the Orks to have a very uniformed, disciplined feel. I'm using heads from Micro Art Studio. I'm not quite happy with this first model. I'll be adding rolled up sleeves to the arms, to reinforce the uniformed look of the model, and I want to change the camo scheme. If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to leave a comment.
- Before I could make much headway on the Orks, I got a bunch of the lovely new Blood Angels models. I painted a squad of Death Company, and a Vanguard Vet. Sgt. for my local store.
- I cleared up my personal schedule to allow for weekly gaming to renew. I'm looking forward to posting some battle reports soon. I play at the Game Preserve South, in Indianapolis, IN, on Tuesday nights if anyone is interested in a game.
- I also started this blog this month. While not a huge accomplishment, it has given me motivation to keep working on painting instead of being lazy in front of the TV.

Converting Set-Back Chimeras - Part I
by SandWyrm
Long-time back40K readers may remember the set-back Chimeras I converted last July for the 'Ard Boyz Semi-Finals. I had some requests at that time for a step-by-step of the process. But I had already finished the first 3 and gotten half-way through 2 more by then.
However, with 'Ard Boyz coming up again this May, I've found that I need an 8th Chimera for my army. So hey, why not document the process while I convert it?
