Well, it's a poorly painted dwarf in power armor. Buy 10 and stick the melta/plasma/missile weapon tip of choice on the end of the generic gun-o-doom. Boom! Instant Marines.
It's not awful, but it's not uber-inspiring either. Hopefully we'll see some more distinctive models soon.

ReplyDeleteColors are bad. Line highlights are stupid. Lack of base finish. It's just meh.
ReplyDeleteThe model itself has some nice touches, but doesn't approach the quality of Mantic's fantasy line.
The lighting is a huge problem. The line highlights look absurdly harsh and the gold metalic areas look brown. I don't know if they just messed up their lightbox or screwed it up in post production but either way I think it'd look a lot better in a better lightbox.
ReplyDeleteThe painter used actual black, which is why the vibrancy has been sucked out of it. Better lighting would only do so much.
ReplyDeleteThe color combo is trying to be complementary (opposite hues) but is off by at least a quarter-turn of the color wheel.
The most critical problem I see with the painting is that the armored beard gets lost in all the other stuff painted gold. That's just poor planning.
