"Be Careful Not To Start A Shooting Spree By Smiling Too Much!"
by SandWyrm
Man! All the cool/interesting stuff is hitting today! Want to buy a giant robot with a smile-triggered BB Gatling Gun? Want to control it with your iPhone too? A Japanese company can do that for you for just 4 Million Dollars (or £900,000 - wait! what!?! NO FAIR!!!).

Wyrd Moves To Plastic... And Doesn't Raise Prices!
by SandWyrm
Well now, this is pretty interesting (Thanks Uberdark!). Wyrd Miniatures has decided to shift their mini production over from traditionally sculpted/cast metal directly to digitally sculpted injection-molded plastic with no resin in-between stage. What's more, they're doing it without raising their prices! They're also being quite open about the process, which makes for some interesting reads as they describe how they decided on the path they did.

GW 2012 Financials Posted
by SandWyrm
GW has posted it's year-end financials for 2012. If you were hoping for any sort of dip in their sales/profits, you won't find it here. The numbers look pretty strong. Expenses are down, and profits are up. Particularly in North America, which saw the greatest sales growth of all their regions.

Going out with a bang.
By TheGraveMind
So 6th edition has been around for a bit now, and I've been mostly quiet. I've read through the rules many times, but haven't really bothered to play a game yet. I've been working on the hobby aspect of the game mostly. I'm not here to talk about 6th ed, at least not today. Today I'm talking about the tournament Wienas just ran. (link to past post) It was a 5th edition tournament and I decided to go out with a bang and play my tyranids. Wienas' Recap and breakdown

Anti-Paladin Tactic!!!! Oh yeah!
By Spaguatyrine
So as I continue to read the rules and re-build my list for nova........(grumble).. I feel there will be a ton of Paladin armies trying to take advantage of the new 2+ fun. I found a great tactic with the change of wording in 6th edition......

It's A Plastic Panther Fight!!! (Or is it?)
by Sandwyrm
Battlefront's John Paul haspromised to 'think about' listened to their fans and compromised on their BF-only models decision for their own tournaments. But whatever comes of that (local money is was right on them switching to a percentage system as GW used to do), they're not relying on this ban alone to help fight off the gains that The Plastic Soldier Company has been making in the 15mm market. Because I noticed today that their latest update includes a new plastic Panther offering of their own. Welcome to the fight Battlefront! Let's take a look at what you have!

Battlefront's John Paul Speaks Up
by SandWyrm
I still don't agree with the new Battlefront-only model policy for their official FoW tournaments. After all, their openness in allowing other models to be used was a big reason I took the plunge into playing the game in the first place, and I don't think that it will accomplish anything but pissing off their adoring fans. But well... Battlefront still is not GW, and John Paul has proved it by commenting directly in their forums about the issue. It's thoughtful and worth a read.

Aww Battlefront... Why'd You Go And Do That?
by Sandwyrm
Given that I'm always comparing Battlefront to GW, and crowing about the lower price of playing their game, I would be remiss if I didn't comment on something Battlefront just did that I don't care for at all. Particularly as it will reduce what I saw as a healthy competition between manufacturers of Flames-compatable miniatures.

My 1625 Mid-War List Deconstructed
by SandWyrm
I'm officially qualified for the FoW Mid-War Nationals at the end of the month, but I won't be able to go due to a conflict. So there's no harm in breaking down how my German 1625 Mid-War list works. That should help folks who might be interested in the thinking behind how a competitive Flames of War army is put together. I know it's been hard to find good info on this myself.

This Is Different... And Pretty Damn Cool!
by SandWyrm
More details are coming out about Devil's Charge, the 2nd book in Battlefront's Battle of the Bulge series. I'm going to focus on a couple of the cool German toys that really mix up the way the game is played. These mechanics would be perfect for Orks or Nid cultists. :)

Are power weapons really that confusing?
Well... I'm Done
by SandWyrm
What to do, what to do... It seems that I'm stuck with an army that I literally can't figure out the rules for in 6th Edition. What's up with that? 400 pages and GW can't put a one-line entry in the reference for the Glaives my Sanguinary Guard carry?

What Does A Competitive Flames Of War Army Cost?
by Sandwyrm
With the demise of Project Biomorph, Kirby has taken over that forum and is turning it into the 3++ forum. As part of that transition, he asked Farmpunk and I to come and be moderators for the Flames of War section. So we're now available over there for the asking of Flames-related questions.
The first question we've gotten, from Frost89, is a good one. What does a Flames army cost? So Farmpunk and I have both broken down the price of the 1625 tournament armies that we played with last weekend. The low prices may astound you. :)

Knocking Down The Flying Circus

Rawr! This Seal Bites Back!

Farmpunk and I have been playing Flames of War pretty consistently since last November. But we'd never been to a Flames tourney until this weekend. Our cherry-popper was a 2-day, 5-round event over at Games 2 Die For on the west side of town. There were only 10 players (8 didn't show due to storm damage in the midwest), but 4 of those are in the top-100 for the national rankings. Tough crowd! In fact Able Company, the local club, is the top-ranked American FOW club on Rankings HQ. Seems like we're a hotbed of expert talent around here. :)

6th Ed Lovin' - Dark Eldar Edition
by Anonymous Foodie
After a breeze or two through the rulebook, it's time to take a look at how our armies are being effected. Since the True Kin are the heralds of time immemorial and the rightful owners of all things to come, I thought I'd go first.
Everyone needs a hobby outside of work, amirite?? |
