The 2013 Indiana Champion ended up being yours truly through a tough battle in Lafayette.  I was able to bring home the trophy for Tippcon also.  2014 will begin the 4 major tournaments of the Indiana Tournament Circuit.  4 different tournaments that grant immortality on the Winners Cup.  Will there be a new champion?  Will you get your name on the cup?  Or just have a great time.  With FrostyCon there are some much desired changes that you the players have been asking for..

Settlement negotiations have broken down, GW's top lawyer has just left the company, and a new high-profile law firm is circling the case. All indications are that CH is intending to appeal, and turn this case into a landmark IP decision with broad-reaching effects on more than just our little hobby industry.

In many of the debates I have read here, and elsewhere, regarding 3D printing one of the most common criticisms is the inability of 3D printers to achieve any kind of fine detail.  While this is not ready for prime time yet we might have turned the corner, an entire room was sculpted using 3D printing.

I walked up to the final championship table that had just two games earlier seen Justin Cook a virtual unknown beat Ben Mohlie, ETC member, and winner of WarGamesCon for The Nova Open Grand Tournament Championship, and the game before Where Jesse Newton knocked out my good friend Brett Perkins.

Comments of, "He's gonna get smashed", "Good Luck he's going to need it!" , coming from the crowd.....

 So GW's site has been down, or low, or not loading, depending on which direction the wind is blowing. I managed to get on after waiting 10 minutes for each page to load. I went ahead and saved some pics, so people can see some of the new potential with out having to suffer like I did.

Something Unusual, & Something Interesting...

Here's a couple of things that I saw yesterday that are very interesting. The first is that Farmpunk & I went to the North Store to play Flames yesterday, and saw that they'd marked down about 15-20% of their GW boxes and Finecast blisters. The brand new Eldar Wraithknight has already been marked down to $99.

I love my DMax! Only other 8-kill game I had was a last-round-of-ammo victory with my Marder II. Would have been 9 kills this game if I hadn't shot wide at that KV before a Hellcat snuck up on my flank. Oh well... I still made bank. :)

When the Tau codex first came out, I heard a lot of trash talk. But after playing some games with my tau (pics soon) and also against tau I can tell you they are here to stay. Considering their battle brother allies are going to be the two newest books out, Tau will have all the new shiny toys to play with. It has really made me consider the strengths of the Tau book.

There's been a lot of speculation this year about what's up with GW's sudden explosion of new products. Some folks thought that GW had finally woken up and seen the money that they were leaving on the table. Some others thought that GW must be setting itself up for a sale (or Kirby's retirement); by pumping its numbers up as high as possible. But I took a different view... That GW was just doing what it had to do to prop up flagging sales after the general disappointment of 6th Edition. Turns out, looking at their just-released financial report, I was right.

Board Control; Mobility vs Durability

You'll hear people say "Play the mission", but what does it mean? It means that 5 of the 6 missions are objective based and while it is fun to just kill everything you can, you need to be able to get to those objectives when the time comes. Generally an army isn't designed to do something like just kill everything, it will use some board control as well. While killing stuff naturally gives some control of the board, actually making the effort to get the upper hand can win the game. Generally this is done by two means, mobility or durability.

Tippcon was this past weekend. Since I used to go to Purdue, I couldn't pass on a chance to visit West Laf. I took my girlfriend with me to show her around while not playing in the tournament. While in numbers it wasn't as many people as I had expected, it was far more competitive with a lot of big names and top placers all in one room. I had brought a Nid list, so I was already losing some confidence from the go.

GW Raises Prices Again... But This Time...

Well, like clockwork, the yearly GW price increase has come, as it always does. According to the spreadsheet I'm looking at though, they've done something that's pretty darn unusual for Games Workshop.
