I have had 6 games with my dark eldar and have been pleasantly surprised by the Talos Pain Engine.  Most people will tell you not to take this model because he is slow, has random attacks and his ballistic skill 3 isn't good enough.  Well I say bah humbug to that!

The Indy Open: March 3-4, 2012

I wanted to remind everyone that The Indy Open (a Warhammer 40K Grand Tournament) will be held in Indianapolis, on March 3rd and 4th!

We will have a 2,000 point 64-man, 6 round win/loss Grand Tournament, with Separate prizes for the best Painted army, Best General, and Renaissance Man (best combined Paint and Generalship). There is a three color minimum for this tournament.

So I got my first test game in next last week with a proxy army against a new necron player.  We were both new at both of our armies, but I was shocked by how the Dark Eldar performed in a positive and negative way.  I of course forgot a ton of dark eldar rules.  The game ended up with a win for the dark eldar, but I obviously have a lot of learning to do with them. I plan on getting a few games in tomorrow with them. As normal with a new army, I will make a full post after 10 test games.  If I was playing in the The Indy Open GT ..........

It seems yesterday we made it to 400 followers, and by the time I put this up, we've made it to 401! Ya growth! We wanted to thank everyone out there for reading along and sharing the hobby along with us.

I know Spagautyrine may be moving away from our local scene, but I'm sure he will share many juicy battle reports as he gets them.

I'm hoping we can pull Sandwyrm away from World of Tanks long enough to finish his painting tutorial for his beautiful Emo-wing.

I'll try to chime in myself with my own perspective on things and some of my Tournament reports as I take on new foes in interesting places.

Combat Patrol Tournament Report

I attended the Indy40k's 500 point combat patrol. I was the last one to show up and made it 13 attendees I believe. There was BA, BA, Daemons, Wolves, GK, GK, GK, Orks, Orks, IG, IG and some stuff. I ended up 3rd place, going 3-1-1 for the day. You can check out the Indy40k's write up here.

Using a Smooth File

I didn't realize how much I missed this thing until I lost it. I had looked all over the place, and I was just about to go buy another one when I finally found it in the bottom of a box. You would think it is just another file, but I fell in love with this when I started using it. It is by Revlon, I got mine for $4. This file also smooths as you use it. Normal files are fine for the most part, but can/do leave a gritty sand paper like texture. The real difference is when using it on metal models. It really is a must, especially for tanks. The only down side is it is larger than a normal nail file, so getting small, hard to reach places is difficult. I've also used the edges to help make small curved grooves.

I figured I'd share this great product with people. I haven't really heard of anyone else using something like this. What does everybody else use? Exacto knife, sand paper?

World of Tanks: Is Windows Slowing You Down?

World of Tanks is especially slow/congested today, at least for me. My ping, which normally hovers at a steady not-great-but-ok 92 on AT&T's U-Verse was up around 129. Making everything stutter about and delaying my shot reactions more than usual. So I decided to see what I could do about speeding it up. Turns out, I was able to get it down to a smooth 65 ms with a simple tweak. Here's how:

Well, a couple weeks ago was EvilTed/Archfiend's Birthday and we had an apocalypse game. It was my first apocalypse and it was an experience. I had a lot of fun, I killed orcs, and I saw titans in action. It was a  good day to play 40k.
